Robert De Niro is a Vietnam vet struggling to move on.
WHY WE PICKED IT: This gritty story of veterans struggling to leave war behind is a quietly moving character study brought to life by skilled actors.
Joseph ""Megs"" Megessey lives a confined life in a small Connecticut town where he still agonizes over the death of his buddy in Vietnam. One day, he impulsively decides to visit Dave, another veteran who has not recovered from the war to try and help restore Dave's life, while adding meaning to his own. Megs' attempts seem doomed to fail, especially when a romance between Megs and Dave's sister leads to a violent, destructive outburst.
